Monkeying around
Remember that adorable scene in E.T. where the little monster breaks into Drew Barrymore’s fridge and starts slamming beers? Well this is like that, only without the cuteness. Troupes of rogue monkeys are ravaging northeastern India, frequently breaking into people’s houses and stealing their goods.
“Monkeys are wreaking havoc in my constituency by taking away mobile phones, toothpastes, sipping coke after opening the refrigerators,” Hiren Das (a lawmaker) told Assam state’s assembly. He said the primates were “even slapping women who try to chase them”.
At first I thought that the monkeys were just having some good, clean fun. Until I read this:
Last month, the deputy mayor of Delhi died when he fell from his balcony after being attacked by monkeys.
Wow. How have I not heard about this? After watching the “Jungles” episode of Planet Earth, a few of my friends decided that monkeys are plotting to take over the world. It looks like those crazy bastards might have been on to something.
