It’s Bobsled Time

So it may not be time for the nostalgic video screenings of Cool Runnings yet, but as the weather is getting chilly and football season is winding down at Wake, what sports can we turn to? Good news: Figure skating has arrived! Will the Americans try for the gold? Yes. Will they win? Probably not. Our assortment of skaters is kind of like the 2008 Women’s Gymnastics team… there are some Nastia Liukins, but probably some Sam Peszeks too (Who? She didn’t compete). Be on the lookout for cutie Evan Lysacek who has won two senior men’s championship titles and is a two-time World medalist. Also, Kimmie Meisner was recently nominated for the ESPY Award for Best Breakthrough Athlete. She’s the top US women’s skater and 7th in the world. Since winter sports competitions are mostly un-televised, we might have to coast off the victories of Michael Phelps until the X Games start on January 30. In the world of professional football, the Tennessee Titans are currently undefeated and local favorites the Carolina Panthers are 8-2. And Brett Favre is still playing football. Crazy. The Carolina Hurricanes are hoping to relive their ’05-’06 season and take the Stanley Cup back to Raleigh. (Check the links for schedules and ticket information)
If you are in the ice skating mood, check out the Joel Coliseum Annex, which is directly behind the Joel. It cost $6 for admission and $3 for skate rental. The schedule can be found here.
**Quick shoutout to Cy Young Winner Cliff Lee and MLB Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto! These boys are amazing.**
