Uggs and Mini-skirts?

Thanksgiving is only one week away and fashion on campus has gotten much cozier.  Here are some dos and don’ts for the winter season, with some input from designer Michael Kors:

Crocs:  No.  The same goes for flip-flops.  Sandals with thick straps that cover most of the foot are okay as long as it’s not unbearably cold outside.
Scarves:  All scarves have the green light.  Here’s a site that shows different ways to tie scarves.
Uggs:  Overrated?  Possibly, but Uggs are amply warm on cold days.  If you must, you must, but thank you to those who avoid them and keep our campus from looking like an Uggs ad.  Also, no weather is schizophrenic enough to warrant Uggs and mini-skirts.  That is not acceptable.
Boots:  Yes, please.  They are especially handy for the snow days that are hopefully coming!
North Face jackets:  If you have one, get your money’s worth out of it.  If it’s black, wear it to the football game!  The NC State fans have Wolfpack ponchos, so we can at least wear our school colors.  Plus, stadium blackouts look cool.
Coats/Sweaters:  Wear them.  You may think you can handle the cold, but your lungs and immune system can’t.  Colds spread fast, so do yourself and the rest of your hall a favor and bundle up.
Leggings:  Leggings are not pants.  Leggings are a good idea in the winter if you are 1) from Siberia, or 2) immune to frostbite.  Since it isn’t ridiculously cold yet (mostly), leggings are suitable, especially if they’re worn under something warm.  Leggings + Uggs is a popular choice on campus, but the jury is still out on that combination.
Hats:  Estimates vary, but at least 40% of your body heat is lost through the head.  On colder days, hats are highly recommended.  For the long trek to the Bio building, put a hat on your head and a comb in your bag.  Your body will be thanking you by exam week.
