The Wake Forest women’s tennis team played in its final tournament of the fall season at the Duke Invitational in Cary, N.C., Nov. 2-4.
In singles play, there were mixed results with the Lady Deacs. Sophomore Sasha Kulikova played the top singles spot for the Deacons.
Kulikova fought hard to take her last match of the season against Oregon’s Celine Rolly, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. Juniors Christian Tara and Sierra Poske followed in Kulikova’s lead with decisive victories over two more Oregon players.
Tara beat Oregon’s Carmen Seremeta, 6-1, 6-2 while Poske outplayed Oregon’s Anna Powaska, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Katarina Reveche ended her season in victory against Blakely Ashley of Princeton, 6-3, 6-2. However, her fellow freshman Deacon, Emilee Malvehy, fell to Princeton’s Rebecca Parks in a tough three-set match, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6. Senior Jenna Loeb also fell to a Princeton player, Sarah Hoffman 7-5, 6-4.
However, the doubles play was not as strong for the Lady Deacons. Redshirt senior Alex Hirsch paired up with Loeb but lost to Princeton’s Ashley and Huah, 8-2. Ashley and Huah went on to defeat the Deacon freshman duo of Reveche and Malvehy, 8-4.In the third doubles spot, Tara and Poske fell to the Blue Devils’ Elizabeth Plotkin and Tory Zawacki, 8-4.
That wraps up the fall season for the Wake Forest women’s tennis team; however, they will be back in full force for their spring season opener at the Virginia Invitational.
