In its third event of the fall 2007 season, the Wake Forest women’s golf team finally found a rhythm finishing in a tie for fifth place at the Lady Tar Heel invitational Oct. 5-7.
The Invitational took place at the 6,285-yard Finley Golf Course.
In the invitational, the Deacs faced ACC opponents Duke, N.C. State, UNC-Chapel Hill, Virginia and Florida State.
The Southeastern Conference also had a strong showing at the invitational with six of its 12 teams competing in the event.
Leading the Deacs the first day of play were freshman Natalie Sheary and junior Nannette Hill.
They finished the day of play tied for fourth and tied for seventh, respectively.
Freshman Allie Bodemann, senior Laura Crawford and junior Jean Chua placed 21st, 41st and 53rd, respectively after the first day of play.
As a team, the Deacons ended up in first place among 18 teams, shooting 7-over par with a 295.
On Oct. 6, the second day of play, the team was led again by Sheary on the course.
She shot one-under par and finished the day tied for second.
Bodemann ended up in the top 25, tied for 20th, while teammates Crawford and Hill were tied for 32nd and Chua finished 73rd.
The team rounded out the second day of play tied for fourth with N.C. State at 593, 17-over par.
On the last day of play, Sheary took the spotlight once again for the Deacons.
She finished in the Top 5 overall in the Invitational, placing fifth. Crawford led the Deacons on the third and final day of play, shooting 2-under par.
She also tied her career-low 18-hole score, shooting 70 for the day and tying for 16th overall.
Hill also shot well on the final day of play, shooting an even par for the second time in the Invitational.
She tied for 28th after birding the last two holes of the day.
Bodemann shot 5-over par on day three to tie for 39th overall.
Chua tied for 71st overall in the Invitational.
The Deacon’s fifth place finish at the Invitational is the best finish the team has had this year.
The Deacons will play next when they travel to the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., Oct. 26-28, which is the team’s last event of the fall 2007 calendar.
