Wake Forest tennis players compete in All-Americans

The Wake Forest men’s tennis team had three players represent the Deacons at the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Oct. 1-7. Junior Cory Parr had a strong showing in the main draw, and senior Mariusz Adamski and sophomore Steven Forman participated in the qualifying draw.

Parr won his first-round match in the main draw with a tough three-setter over Kentucky’s Bruno Agostinelli, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
In the second round, Parr played Cosmin Cotet of TSU who had defeated the second seed of the tournament, Ohio State’s Steven Moneke. Parr lost to Cotet, 6-1, 6-3.
Demon Deacon Steven Forman defeated the fourth seed of the qualifying singles draw, Thomas Richter of Indiana in a decisive two set victory, 6-3, 6-4.
Forman lost in the next round to Duke’s Reid Carleton, 7-5, 6-2.
Adamski’s first-round match was lost in a third set tiebreaker to Arizona’s Claudio Christen, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3).
Adamski and Parr paired up to represent the Deacons in the doubles draw.
However, they had a tough first round loss to University of Illinois’ Brandon Davis and Ryan Rowe, 9-8 (3).
Next up for the men’s team will be the Gamecock Invitational held in Columbia, S.C., from Oct. 12-14.
For the Lady Deacons, senior captain Alex Hirsch was the only representative at the ITA All-Americans held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
Hirsch played a total of three matches.
In her first match to Georgia Tech’s Amanda McDowell, Hirsch lost 6-0, 6-0.
However, she came back strong to win in her first consolation match against Denver’s Annette Aksdale, 6-2, 6-3. Hirsch ended her match play in the tournament with a loss to Arizona’s Danielle Steinbert, 6-4, 6-1.
The Lady Deacons next set of matches will be held in Chapel Hill, N.C., in the Southeast Regional Tournament beginning Oct. 27.
