First up, the team traveled to Florida State Oct. 31. However, the Seminoles were too much for the Deacs to handle, sweeping them 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19 in three games.

The problem for Wake against Florida State came in the area of passing, which kept the Deacon offense from developing most of the night.

The Deacons had a .131 hitting percentage against the Seminoles and no Wake player reached double figures.

Sophomore Kristen White and freshman Kadija Forna led the team offensively with nine kills each.

Sophomore setter Kelsey Jones recorded 31 assists for the Deacons.

Defensively, sophomore Megan Thornberry led the squad with 13 digs, along with junior Abby Miller, who recorded 11 digs.

Compared to the Deacons’ .131 hitting percentage, the Seminoles out hit Wake with a .230 percentage.

Florida State also out dug the Deacs by eight digs.

The match at Florida State marked the fifth straight road loss for the Deacons.

Two days later, the team traveled to Miami to take on the Hurricanes in another ACC matchup.

In comparison to the game against Florida State, the Deacons played like a different offensive team against the Hurricanes.

Four Wake players recorded double-doubles to lead the team to a sweep over Miami, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-22.

This win leaves the Deacons in a tie with Florida State for seventh in the ACC and with an overall record of 16-9.

In the game against the Hurricanes, Jones recorded her 2,000th career assist in a Deacon uniform. She connected with graduate student Natalie Mullikin for a total of 14 kills.

Defensively, Miller led the Deacs with 20 digs, which is her highest total in a three game match this season.

She led Wake to a total of 77 digs in the match, which was also the highest in a three game match for the team.

Next up, the Deacons will host two ACC opponents, Georgia Tech and Clemson, Nov. 7 and 8th, respectively.
