The Wake Forest men’s tennis team was represented by only two players at the ITA/Wilson Mideast Regional Championships Oct. 20 at the University of Virginia.

Junior Cory Parr and sophomore Steven Forman both posted strong results in the singles and doubles draws.

In singles, Parr advanced to the quarterfinals defeating ninth-seeded Sadam Singh of UVA 6-3, 6-0. However, after the strong win, Parr fell in a tough three setter to another ninth-seed, Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

In the doubles draw, Forman and Parr paired up and took down 16th-seed Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy from University of North Carolina, 8-4.

To advance to the semifinals, Parr and Forman defeated Derek T. Stephens and Chris Welte of N.C. State, 8-3.

Their winning streak did not continue to the finals after a tough 9-7 upset against University of Virginia’s Singh and Michael Shabaz.

The Wake Forest women’s tennis team was led by senior captain Alex Hirsch and junior Sasha Kulikova at the ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Kulikova won her first four matches, reaching the semifinals before she fell to the No. 5 seed, Duke’s Reka Zslinszka. On her way to the semis, she took down players from both Duke, Eastern Kentucky and Furman.

Hirsch had a strong performance, reaching the quarterfinals.

In her first match, Hirsch took down Alejandra Guerra of UNC -Greensboro, 6-2, 6-0. She then went on to defeat Federica Van Adrichem of Clemson, 7-5, 6-2, until ultimately falling to Sanaz Marand of UNC in a tough three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

Freshman Emilee Malvehy captured another ACC victory of fifth seed Diana Petrovic of N.C. State in a decisive third set, 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-0. Malvehy fell in the next round to Jelena Durisic of UNC, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Fellow Deacon freshman Katarina Reveche took down Elon’s Paige Kensrue, 6-2, 6-2 in her first round match. However, she too fell in her second-round match to Chapel Hill.

In her first singles match since last fall, junior Christian Tara fell to Ghizella Schutte of Tennessee, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. Junior Sierra Poske lost to Vanderbilt’s Taka Bertrand in her first round match, 6-1, 6-4.

In the qualifying draw, senior Jenna Loeb took down Natalia Baez of Louisville, 3-6, 7-5 (Ret) and then fell to Furman’s Jessica Preeg, 6-4, 6-0.

The Lady Deacon doubles team of Hirsch and Kulikova had a strong showing taking down Elon’s Deanna Bailey and Jenn Tucci, 8-4 in the first round.

Their next victims were Laura Borza and Link Leskosky of Wofford who they beat 8-3; and they continued their victorious run over Virginia’s Berry and Kelsey Linville of Wofford 8-4.

Other Lady Deac doubles duos were Poske and Malvehy who fell in their first round match to University of Tennessee.

Loeb and freshman Katarina Reveche also fell in their first round match to Clemson.
