Spotlight: Michelle Duffey
By Allison Lange | Sports editor
Senior Michelle Duffey is finally in her last semester of running at Wake Forest. Throughout her four years, she has steadily improved her times and skills. In the first meet of this year, Duffey broke two Wake Forest records as a member of one relay team and an individual event. Duffey runs both indoor and outdoor track, competing in hurdles, short distances and relays for the Deacons. As a senior that is constantly improving, Duffey looks to have a fun season ahead of her.

The Old Gold & Black’s Sports editor Allison Lange sat down with Duffey to talk about breaking two school records at one meet, team and individual goals for this year, being a senior this year and her favorite class at Wake Forest.
On breaking two school records:
It felt really good to break two records, especially in the first meet. It set the season off right and got me motivated for the rest of the indoor season.
On being a senior this year:
As a senior I am a lot more vocal and a lot more experienced when it comes to managing time at track meets. It is different as a senior. You understand things about track that you can’t as a freshman. You are able to help teammates more since you have experienced a lot of things they are just now going through.
On her personal goals for the season:
I mainly want to stay healthy and do my very best to perform well at each meet.
I want to be a key player at indoor ACCs this year in the 60H, 400m and the 4x400 Relay.
On the team goals:
Team unity is a big one for me. The motivation that you get from your teammates is unbelievable. I want us to place as one of the top teams for the indoor and outdoor seasons.
On her favorite event to run:
Indoor I love running the 500m. I don’t know why but I do! It is almost like the 400mH, which is what I do outdoor but slightly different.
On her favorite meet to run at:
I love going to the Armory in New York. I love their track and the crowd is amazing. The competition is always great and I mean, it is New York!
On her favorite class at Wake Forest:
My favorite class was a Women’s and Gender Studies class I took as a junior. It was Women and Reproduction with Teresa Smith (she is fantastic). This class incorporated everything that women are not told by the field of medicine.
As an Health and Exercise Science major it was great to learn specifically about women and information for later on in life.
