In their first of three games, the Lady Deacs entered halftime of the Michigan State game scoreless before two back-to-back goals ended the Michigan State Spartans’ nine game winning streak.
With the Spartans setting the tone with a cross 10 minutes into the second half, junior Aileen Davis met the challenge with a return goal of her own off a penalty corner shot from senior Minou Gimbrere. Barely a minute later, senior Michelle Kasold scored as the clock expired.
With one victory under their belt and two games to go, the Lady Deacs took on Northwestern. They handled the Wildcats by a score of 8-2.
Before a minute had elapsed, junior Melissa Martin scored off a pass from freshman Faith Adams. Over the next 19 minutes, Adams, Davis and junior Raisa Schiller advanced the Deacs to a four-goal shutout lead.
Junior Regina Shannon added two more goals to the Deacons’ accumulation before assisting Gimbrere on her first goal of the game. Northwestern added a lone goal to the score as the first half expired, bringing the tally to 6-1 at the half.
Kasold edged past the Wildcat defense in two back-to-back goals, expanding the Deacon lead to seven goals, ending the game with a final score of Demon Deacons 8, Wildcats 2.
In their third and final match up of the weekend, the Demon Deacons beat Radford, shutting out the Highlanders 11-0. This game marked the first time in over five years the Deacons had scored more than 10 goals in a single game, with two players scoring their first career goals in the process.
Less than 45 seconds apart, Romansky and Schiller gave the Deacons a two point advantage, both assisted by Kasold before Kasold added a goal of her own to the board. Davis added back-to-back goals before Schiller added two more goals.
Freshman Adelaide Knott scored twice, stealing her first career goal. Fellow freshman Alex Wolfgang-Price also added her first career goal before Adams closed the game with a final goal.
The Lady Deacs next take on California on Oct. 19 at Kentner Stadium before traveling to Virginia.
They will then return home for two ACC games against Boston College and Maryland.
