The Wake Forest men’s and women’s track and field teams performed respectably April 17-19 at the 2008 Outdoor ACC Championship in Atlanta, Ga., with many impressive individual achievements.
The men’s team was led by sophomore Jon Reid. He capped the weekend off with a time of 47.18 in the finals of the 400m dash. Reid’s sixth place performance was enough to qualify for the NCAA East Regional Championships, that are set to take place on May 30 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Along with Reid’s regional qualification, there were many personal bests, as well as one personal first.
Sophomore Marcus Dillon clocked a 9:26.58 as Wake’s first Steeplechase competitor this season. The Oshawa, Ontario native placed 12th overall in the event.
Junior Phillip Warsaw recorded a personal best 52.27 in the 400m hurdles and Thomas Sensing also set a new personal best with a mark of 53-07.75 in the men’s shot put event to take seventh place overall in the men’s shot put event on Saturday.
The women’s team opened up the tournament strong behind the effort of Jill Ahrens as the senior set a new program pole vault record for the third time this season with a mark of 12-05.50.
Junior Carly Mauch landed a second place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 142-03.
Senior Molly Kennedy performed exceptionally well in both the triple jump and heptathlon events, placing sixth and fourth respectively in the ACC Championships
Sophomore Nicole Castronuova set a season best in the 200m run with a mark of 24.18, while also eclipsing her personal best in the 400m event with a 56.63 mark.
