Field Hockey remains undefeated and unstoppable

The No. 1-ranked Demon Deacon field hockey team defeated Ohio University and Davidson, advancing to 8-0 in season and 1-0 in the ACC. Still fired up after back-to-back wins Sept. 13-14, the Lady Deacs overtook Ohio University with a 4-0 shutout.

Less than 20 minutes into the first half, junior Melissa Martin scored off a pass from senior Minou Gimbrere.

The half ended with the Lady Deacs limiting Ohio to a mere four shots on goal.

Ten minutes into the second half, junior Hilary Moore connected with the back of the cage, increasing the Deacon lead to two goals.

Just over a minute and a half later, as the clock hit the 45 minute mark, Moore crossed the cage to junior Kim Romansky.

Still holding Ohio scoreless and without a single shot, Moore inserted a shot from senior Michelle Kasold at the 48 minute mark, expanding the Deacon lead to four goals. Wake Forest continued their fervor the next day, overtaking the Davidson Wildcats 4 to 1.

A mere three minutes into regulation play, junior Raisa Schiller shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner pass from Martin and Kasold.

Unchallenged, junior Aileen Davis scored shortly after the clock struck five minutes, an unassisted rebound deflected off a shot at the goalie by senior Liz Fries.

After 25 minutes of play, freshman Faith Adams scored the first goal of her collegiate career converting on a right side pass from Gimbrere, tapping past the keeper.

Less than two minutes after Adams’ goal, Davis scored her second goal of the half off a penalty corner shot over the goalkeeper.

The Demon Deacons ended the first half limiting their opponents to a solo shot on cage, holding their last two opponents scoreless for entire halves.

With just minutes to go in the game, Davidson added their lone score to the board, closing the game 4 to 1.

The Lady Deacs have outscored their there opponents 26-10 on the year, while out-shooting them 110-78.

The Deacons look to expand their undefeated record to 9-0 Sept. 27 when they face the Maryland Terrapins at home.

The game begins at noon in Kentner Stadium.
