The Clinton Campaign Deathwatch took a brief turn for the better this week as Senator Barack Obama shoved his foot firmly, yet unitedly, into his mouth. While at a San Francisco fundraiser, Senator Obama had this to say:
“You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
Well. That certainly explains it all. People don’t hold their beliefs because they actually believe them. Instead, it is because they are bitter. I find that simply immature of Obama. It is another example of Obama looking down upon the voters he should be representing. Obama was unsuccessfully attempting to explain to San Franciscan voters why Pennsylvanians were supporting Clinton over himself, and simply shot himself in the foot.
What’s the best way to portray yourself as the working man’s candidate? Any college student could tell you the answer to this:
