a party divided cannot stand
Pedantic Pennsylvania
Hillary has as expected, pulled off a victory in Pennsylvania. At this point, the divide in the party is something I find rather troubling, especially as exit poll after exit poll has revealed that supporters of either candidate are threatening to desert the party should their opponent win.
The sheer fact that Hillary is still in the race is the farthest thing from selfless that I have ever seen (truly a pity considering her noble past). Many had noted that her only chance to the nomination was to stay close and hope for a major gaffe— CNN last night said that even James Carville, one of the closest friends of the Clintons said it would take “multiple straight flushes” for a win.
By staying in, certainly there is a two-front attack—generally these are pretty hard to win, just ask Napoleon. If she had exited sooner, it would have been far easier for Obama to go up against McCain. Independents are going to gravitate towards the party that seems to have its act together (unless Dems can connect McCain to Bush). As a Democrat, I can only hope that McCain has half as many skeletons in his closet as his name suggests.
Clinton is analogous to a sports team committing fouls and injuring players when it is mathematically impossible to win-- sorry Hillary, but the refs are not going to change the rules for you, no matter how many times you tear up. It truly is sad to see the Clintons destroying the party which they helped build up.
