Ja Wir Können

A quarter of a million Berliners came to the tiergarten yesterday to listen to Barack Obama’s first international speech.  The crowd, abound with Yankee hats and American flags, was probably the most pro-US international crowd I have seen at any event in my lifetime.  By the end of the speech, one of the largest newspapers in Germany, der Spiegel had been so convinced of Obama’s merit, they published an article proclaiming his victory: Number 44 has spoken.

Something that left certain pundits a bit confused was Obama’s call to Berlin, saying “our time is now”.  The speech, titled “A World that Stands as One”, came at the end of a jam-packed week for the senator, where he visited Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, and Israel.

Back home, McCain has been constantly whining about the lack of press coverage.  Some notable events,

a ride in a golf cart with the only human-being alive that is older than McCain himself,

and a speech in PA in an auditorium filled to half of its capacity of 1600.

Stay tuned, in the next 2 weeks we will have Obama’s VP choice.  He plans to unveil the lower half of the ticket before the Olympics, as once the gold medals have been awarded, its time to award Obama the nomination at the convention.
