Small restaurant proves to be better than expected

The typical response I received when I asked students what they thought about Jimmy the Greek Kitchen went somewhat like this: “It’s a great place to go after a fun night out.”

I didn’t know exactly what that meant, but assumed it to mean a small, cheap, run-down, greasy food restaurant, and in some aspects I found this assessment very true.

But there is more to Jimmy the Greek Kitchen than a place for a late-night food run.

The small restaurant is located in the shopping center across from the Coliseum, which does indeed make it perfect for a late-night stop after a night out.

But the location also makes it easy for students to get there on other occasions.

I decided to check out the morning scene for a nice breakfast.

The atmosphere at that time was nice. It had such a homey feeling, which I thought would be the case when I saw many locals making their way into the restaurant.

From what I had heard, I expected the interior to be simple, not anything out of the ordinary.

But, when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised.

The walls have beautiful murals and the lighting from both the outside and inside really accentuated the pictures and made them stand out.

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the service with a cheery “Good morning” and was told to sit wherever I would like.

The seating is nice because it is able to accommodate big groups, but it starts out with a more intimate arrangement with tables of two or four.

The service continued to be superb, and the food came out very quickly.

Up until now, what I had heard about Jimmy the Greek did not match the experience that I was having. I expected a hole in the wall, but found it to be a very cute and well-designed breakfast place.

The service was good. The menu had several options that would make it easy for anyone to find something they enjoyed.

But, when the food came out I could see why I had heard that this was a great late night place.

The food was good, but it was a little too greasy for me; but that did not completely turn me away, since I also did not have to pay very much for my meal. So, I guess it equals out.

The prices range from $4 for most breakfast items to $7 for dinner items such as fried chicken, Italian dishes, sandwiches and subs.

Overall, Jimmy the Greek Kitchen is not the kind of place that you ask your parents to take you when they are in town, but it is worth your while to try.

They have very flexible hours, good service, affordable prices (including a discount for students), a cute atmosphere and decent food.

But hey, breakfast all day, who wouldn’t wanna go?
