Modest restaurant offers dishes at a reasonable price

By Sara Bivin | Staff writer

Oyster Bay is a great place to go for copious amounts of good seafood at a great price. For anyone who may be thinking “I don’t like seafood,” or “I’m allergic to seafood,” don’t worry – Oyster Bay has a full selection of non-seafood meals such as burgers, salads, hot dogs, steaks and pork and a variety of appetizers. Appetizers range from crab legs to popcorn shrimp to frog legs or, the most popular, a blooming onion and hot wings.

They are priced between $3 for soups to $10 for the crab legs. There is also a variety of sandwiches, salads and wraps, all between $4 and $8. When it comes to seafood entrees, you have your choice between boiled and fried.

There is a variety of different fish you can order, such as flounder, trout, catfish, perch, salmon and mahi-mahi. Scallops, shrimp, oysters, stuffed deviled crab and lobster are also available.

You can also go with one of the many combos offered, though its advised to order these between two people as they are a steaming mound of fresh seafood.

The broiled combo includes any two items out of flounder, jumbo shrimp, scallops and oysters for only $13.99, or there is the four item broiled combo with a fillet of flounder, jumbo shrimp, scallops and deviled crab for $14.99. The broiled platters come with a tossed salad, cole slaw and either a baked potato or hushpuppies.

The fried combos include the Oyster Bay special combo (flounder, jumbo shrimp, scallops, oysters, deviled crab and clam strips) for only $12.99.

There is also the Fisherman’s special combo (flounder, popcorn shrimp, scallops, oysters and deviled crab) for $12.79.

The fried selections are served with hushpuppies, coleslaw and either French fries or a baked potato.

One can also order a steak and seafood combination ranging from $18.29 for steak and jumbo shrimp, to $23.99 for steak and lobstertail.

There are also Oyster Bay specialties on the menu such as chicken scampi with rice ($8.99) and the cajun shrimp creole with rice ($9.99).

If you don’t like any of the combinations they have put together, you can put together your own combinations.

Two-item combinations are $9.99 and four item combinations are $11.99.

The service is efficient and the staff very welcoming and friendly. It is a great place to go for good seafood that is affordable for us college students on a budget.

If you are over 21, they have a good selection of wines and beers to choose from to accompany your dinner. Also, if you are throwing a large party, it’s good to know that Oyster Bay also has a catering service.

Oyster Bay is conveniently located next to Hanes Mall on Hanes Mall Boulevard, right next to the Lonestar restaurant.
