Golden Globes awards a surprising selection

Once again, NBC treated us to this year’s Golden Globes award show, accolades given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to both movie and film personalities in a multitude of various categories. While not as celebrated as an Emmy or an Oscar, a Golden Globe is still a prestigious honor that any actor, actress, director or producer would love to take home.
NBC aired the 60th annual awards live from the Beverly Hills Hilton; the 25 awards were decided upon by about 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The HFPA followed in the wake of last year’s Emmy trend of heavily nominating cable networks and series; out of the 11 awards given for television series, 10 of these went to programs aired exclusively on cable, and seven of these 10 awards were won by programming on HBO.
The award for Best Motion Picture Drama went to The Hours, still currently in theaters; the film features Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, John C. Reilly, Ed Harris, Allison Janney and a host of other familiar faces. The story focuses on the lives of three women living in different eras, all of whom have been impacted by the writing of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway.
