wake the library!

ZSR Begins Extended Hours for Exams

Wake Forest’s Z. Smith Reynolds Library has begun its extended hours for the end of the semester.  It is currently open until 3 a.m. for the rest of the week, and until 1 a.m. this Friday and Saturday.  Plus, once the library opens at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 9th, it will not close its doors until Saturday December 15th!  So now you can pull an all-nighter without having to claim a room in Tribble, or worse, share one with a stranger.

If this news excites you, you might want to sit down before you read any more.  Wake Forest is trying to make this a permanent change.  If another security guard can be found to fill the hours, students will have late-night or 24-hour access to the library.  This will mean that the creepy 24-hour room won’t be your only study spot for those dreadful late nights spent studying.  I hope the library can make this change because it also means that students will have access to all of the books.  Realizing at 1 a.m. that you need a book that is trapped inside the library is no fun, even worse when you need a book that cannot be taken out of the library, like an encyclopedia.  Making the library open 24-hours a day will solve that problem and provide a great place for students to study, no matter what time of day.

another phenomenal broadcast email that went on too long

Hatch tells us nothing new

Students received a perfectly timed-10 a.m. e-mail from President Nathan O. Hatch today revealing, or really explaining why we are forcing faculty out of Faculty Apartments.

Hatch confirmed what we all knew, that our dorms are outdated and gross AND that we are going to need new dorms to house the prescribed increase in enrollment, to take effect next year. Thank God I’m a junior.

Natty said:

Because it is my practice to share information with you frequently, I wish
that we had been in a position to give more than four or five months’ notice
to residents, but it was not feasible with this combination of factors in
play. Sometimes, the congruence of circumstances dictates the timing and
sequence of decisions, and the housing challenge was such an occasion.

Oh Nathan, that’s some serious poetic crap.

The plan in whole, intended to spur national rankings and recognition of the university, has backfired shamelessly, creating unprecedented student resentment towards the administration. As one of my senior friends said, “[the e-mail] was hilariously jam-packed with horse s***.”

All I want is a rec center, please?

Wake becomes more of a country club

No clouds in my storms now that the university has put umbrellas on the outdoor tables between Benson and Tribble. When a friend of mine from Vanderbilt visited, she commented on how much Wake looks like a country club and now I am beginning to wonder if we are one. We have meticulous grass maintenance, outrageous prices for comestibles and now coordinating outdoor furniture. Coincidence, I think not.image
