another phenomenal broadcast email that went on too long
Hatch tells us nothing new
Students received a perfectly timed-10 a.m. e-mail from President Nathan O. Hatch today revealing, or really explaining why we are forcing faculty out of Faculty Apartments.
Hatch confirmed what we all knew, that our dorms are outdated and gross AND that we are going to need new dorms to house the prescribed increase in enrollment, to take effect next year. Thank God I’m a junior.

Because it is my practice to share information with you frequently, I wish
that we had been in a position to give more than four or five months’ notice
to residents, but it was not feasible with this combination of factors in
play. Sometimes, the congruence of circumstances dictates the timing and
sequence of decisions, and the housing challenge was such an occasion.
Oh Nathan, that’s some serious poetic crap.
The plan in whole, intended to spur national rankings and recognition of the university, has backfired shamelessly, creating unprecedented student resentment towards the administration. As one of my senior friends said, “[the e-mail] was hilariously jam-packed with horse s***.“
All I want is a rec center, please?

All I want is higher teacher salaries. Rec Center? Big whoop. Go outside and jog or something. It sure would be nice, but there are seriously higher priorities. Did I mention teacher salaries?
Posted by: Kevin on March 04, 2008 5:51 pmA new rec center should definitely be one of our highest priorities. Reynolds Gym is embarrassing. Every other ACC school has an athletic center that is less than ten years old. Ours? Built in the mid-1950’s. Lame. Better gym = More sexually attractive students = Increased enrollment = More Tuition Dollars Raked In = Higher Faculty Salaries. It’s science.

As a WFU graduate from 25 years ago, I too, am disappointed in Hatch. He is an academic, not a leader. When it comes to running Wake, he is flaccid and ineffectual. We obviously removed “Charisma” as a quality to look for in a President. All I can see when I think of him, is that “arms crossed” picture of him when he first arrived. That photo speaks volumes about the man. Delusions of adequacy.
Compare him to Leo Lambert at Elon, or even to Craven Williams at Greensboro College, and you will find the man barely causing the needle to move on the personality meter. Until our graduates over at Bowman Gray can perfect a “Charisma Transplant”, we are stuck with Nathan Hatch.
