As anticipated, Screamin’ Demons reached 2,210 members and was subsequently capped off at the final sign-up session Oct. 29 outside Benson University Center.
A waiting list was started and 101 people had been added to the wait list as of 5 p.m. Nov. 3, said senior Chris Cagle, the Deacon Club chairman of the Screamin’ Demons.
“I think it’s great that it filled up,” Cagle said. “It really gives us an opportunity to be one united group and show the excitement and enthusiasm we have for Wake Forest athletics.”
Only 25 spots in the group remained prior to the sign-up session, and they were distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, Cagle said.
Students on the waiting list can get into Screamin’ Demons if current members of the group are kicked out for violating the rules by missing two games.
However, getting in to the group is not the only way to get in to basketball games. The group’s Web site, http://www.wfuscreamindemons.com, features a message board on which members can post when they cannot attend certain games. Non-members can then borrow the T-shirt and pass to attend that game in their place.
“We’re just trying to promote the Web site a lot so people know about sharing the passes,” Cagle said. “We just want to make sure that the maximum amount of people that can go to each game are able to go.”
Cagle acknowledged that he and other Screamin’ Demons officials expect to face backlash in the coming weeks as a result of the group being capped and monopolizing the undergraduate student allotment.
However, he said they “are not going to take it personally.”
“Certainly there are people that are frustrated with the situation,” Cagle said. “Some people will backlash at us. But we’re just going try to continue to provide the best thing for our club and try to get the most people to the game.”
