Football success prompts pep club to revamp

Few aspects of the fall 2007 semester are more anticipated than this year’s football season.
After last year’s success, everyone wants to see what the Demon Deacon football squad can do.
However, with all of the added interest that Wake Forest football rarely receives, some have concerns about Screamin’ Demons sign-ups and space in the stadium.
There are a limited number of seats available for football. However, the seats will be prime.
“This year, Screamin’ Demons will also take up the entire lower-level seating for football,” said senior Tiffany Ingold, Screamin’ Demons public relations chair.
According to senior Whitney Marshall, Student Government president, there are more seats available this year for students who are not Screamin’ Demons.
Tickets will be available through the Benson Ticket Office. Deacon cards will be scanned at the game and students must have a paper ticket in hand rather than simply a student athletic pass.
Marshall also said that there will be a new young alumni section, as alumni often took seating in the section designated for current students last season, causing overcrowding.
For those who are interested in Screamin’ Demons, sign-ups will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in Reynolds Gymnasium. Sign-ups are for all incoming freshmen, as well as any upperclassmen who did not sign up in the spring.
At the sign-ups, Head Coach Jim Grobe will be present to talk to everyone about the future of the university’s football program.
Students need to bring $15 cash or check made payable to WFAA and their student ID cards. Deacon Dollars will not be accepted.
“The football theme is “Paint it Black,” so our shirts this season will be black in an attempt to “Black Out” Groves each game and create an intimidating atmosphere for our ACC rivals to come into and play,” Ingold said.
Screamin’ Demons activities are extending past just sign-ups for football home games.
“We’re going to definitely look at travel packages and see what we can get worked out for students who want to travel to away games,” Ingold said.
Many are enthusiastic about the upcoming season. “We’re so incredibly jacked about football this year,” she said.
