The student fought the unidentified attacker. She was not injured but did sustain some scratches to her arm and face. The attacker fled the scene when an unidentified man appeared and chased him.

The student told University Police that she was walking to her car in Lot E when a man who appeared to be lying on the pavement jumped up and grabbed her. She responded by fighting the man and calling for help during which an unidentified man came out of Luter Residence Hall and chased him. The assailant escaped and the man who scared the assailant remains unidentified.

The student described her attacker as a black man in his mid-20s, approximately 5’11” and weighing about 175 pounds. He had short hair and was wearing a brown overcoat and light brown, untied Timberland-style boots. A composite of the assailant was released April 17 after being compiled through partnership with the Winston-Salem Police department.

Students are reminded that there are over 40 emergency phones in university parking lots as well as shuttle services to take students to campus destinations at night.

“As always, be alert to your surroundings, pay attention to anything suspicious and out of the ordinary,” Chief of Police Regina Lawson said. “Don’t hesitate to call and report anything unusual.”
